Nick, Brian, Howie,
Kevin and AJ, better known as Backstreet Boys, were sitting around the table in their
private booth, chatting and waiting their meals to come, when someone ran across the room,
making their bodyguards look around and prepare themselves on a fan attack. But no fans came in, instead came two angry
men, running through the room. Suddenly somebody ran next to guys table and hide under
their table. Everyone sitting around the table looked at each other like not believing
what just had happened, then Nick felt somebody yanking his jeans. He peeked under the
table with amazed look on his face.He saw a girl, most beautiful girl, sitting under the
table, next to his legs and looking at him with puppy eyes with one difference. Her eyes
were bright green.—Please, I know this is really weird but don’t tell I’m
here to those two men who ran after me! This is matter of life and death. Please, I beg
you!! Don’t do it! She said, looking straight to his eyes. She had long curly red
hair, which was rather messed up and a frightened look on her face told that she
wasn’t kidding. And that sure wasn’t just a trick by a fan to get to meet guys.
—I… I… Nick mumbled.
—Please, she whispered, one more time and while she said it tears roll from her eyes.
—Ok. But you better have good explanation! He said and then let the tablecloth fell
back to its place. Then he started talking to his mates.
—Uhm… Guys… Don’t tell to the men who ran from here that the person
they are trying to catch is under out table. Try to act normal! He said, calmly though he
found it hard not to grin widely. The whole situation was one of the most awkward that had
ever happened to him.The two men ran back to the room, glanced around and walked back out
from the door they had just come in. Nick pulled one chair next to his and then peeked
back under the table.
—You can come out now, the men are gone, he said now grinning with his whole face.
She crawled away from beneath of the table and Nick pointed the chair next to him. She sat
down and everyone turned their eyes on her, waiting for explanation.
—Alright, alright, she said and stroke her hair backwards. —Well…uhm…
How would I start… she said, obviously feeling really embarrassed.
—Well, were waiting, AJ said and looked at her.
—Yeah…ok…so, I kinda…escaped. She said, fingering the tablecloth.
—Uhm. From where? Brian nodded and tried to hide his grin under his hand.
—Well, it's not easy to tell... She said quietly. Guys exchanged looks.
—Why? Kevin asked finally.
—Hmm… You know those two men who ran after me? She said and the redness on her
face deepened.
—Yes, Kevin said waiting for her to continue.
—This is soo embarrassing…she said and again stroke her hair.
—Spit it out! Nick said.
—I’m international spy... And they were FBI agents… She said and first time
she lifted her eyes to meet guys.
Their jaws dropped open. They looked at her like not believing what she just had said.
—They are…FBI agents?!
—Huh…Yeah. She said.
—Geez! AJ said.
—Why they are after you? Kevin asked.
—Umm…It’s a long story and I’d rather not to mess you into
this…She said dropping the tablecloth and placing her hands on the table.
—How old are you? Howie asked.
—18. She answered.
—You’ve got to be kidding us! Nick shouted. —You can’t
be older than 15! He said to her, throwing his hands in the air.
—Don’t believe me! She shouted angrily, and everyone in the room
went quiet and glanced to the booth. She jumped to her feet, ready to leave, but Nick was
quick enough to grab her wrist.
—Ok, ok! Sorry, that I didn’t believe you, but you look so young.
He said, sounding apologetic. —Please, sit back down, he said, pointing to the chair
with his free hand. She calmed down a bit and
sat down to her chair.
—We haven’t eaten anything yet; do you want something? Brian
asked. The girl looked at him suspiciously. —Really, no joke! He said.
—I have bothered you enough already. I guess I’d better leave she
said, again, trying to leave, but Nick put his hand on her shoulder and made her sit back
down.
—And where would you go, he asked looking to her eyes, holding his hand
still on her shoulder.
—I don’t know. What do you care? She said, sounding bitter. She
shoved Nick’s hand off and crossed her arms in front of her chest. Her face looked
angry and she stared somewhere in the middle of the table. Waiter
walked in and brought their long waited meals. Nick winked to him and whispered something
to him and he nodded and walked away. Guys started eating their meals and chatted with
each other like nothing had happened. The girl continued staring but Nick saw from the
corner of his left eye that her eyes were wandering on their foods. He knew she was hungry
by the look on her face. But he also saw, that she was too proud to ask for food. He
smiled behind his hamburger and guys saw his smile. They smiled back, like signaling him
that they knew the same thing. Not long after their meals were brought the waiter came
back and placed one more meal on the table between Nick and Howie. Nick finished his
hamburger and wept off the mayonnaise from corners or his mouth. Then he pushed the tray
in front of her.
—Be my guest! He said gesturing to the food.
She didn’t move her eyes. But Nick was patient. He saw she was glancing
to the food when he wasn’t watching her. But still, she was too proud. But he decided
to give her some time. And little later she swallowed her stupid pride and grabbed to the
hamburger like she hadn’t got food in weeks. Nick lifted his hand before his mouth,
covering his grin. He watched her eating and he saw her features changing from angry back
to the girl she was before they had made her angry. Again Nick couldn’t help thinking
that she looked beautiful. Too beautiful. She had all the curves in right places but he
saw that she had lost much weight. Dozen questions tickled his tongue but he forced
himself to wait until she finished her food.
After drinking the last drop of the coke, she leaned back and wept her
mouth. She closed her eyes. Suddenly loud burp escaped from her mouth and again she was
competing with the fire trucks which one was redder. Guys started laughing and even she
cracked little smile. It relaxed the mood really much.
—One question has been bothering my mind, Nick said, looking to her
side profile. She turned her eyes to him and again those green eyes made his knees weak,
and he thanked God that he was sitting.
—Yeah? She said.
—What’s your name? He asked.
—Cassandra.
—Nice to meet you Cassandra, though the way we met wasn’t actually
the most glorious one. As you probably know, I’m Nick, that guy sitting next to you
is Kevin, this fellow on my right side is Howie, Brian is sitting next to him and last but
not least, AJ. Nick introduced guys to her.
—Well, thanks for the meal, she said and her eyes were pressed to her
hands which were lying on her lap.
—Your welcome! Nick said smiling. —OK, let’s go, he said then
and crabbed her hand. She looked at him amazed.
—What? Where? Then fear came to her voice. —No!! You can’t
turn me in to the police!! You can’t!! She said and tried to jerk her hand off.
—If you turn me in, they will put me to the jail!!! I’d rather die!! She said
and Nick looked to her amazed.
—Hey, hey!! Calm down!! Who said we are going to the police?! He said
and looked at her, trying to calm her down. He saw her eyes being all damp from tears and
soon one big tear rolled to her cheek. Without thinking it, he wept it off, causing her
startle and evade his touch like she had been afraid of him. Nick looked to her eyes and
saw they were full of fear and he squeezed her hand firmly.
—We are going to my place. He said to her, looking deep into her eyes,
convincing he was on her side. She looked and sobbed. —Hey, everything is OK! Nick
said lifting her chin up, keeping his eyes on her eyes. Again a tear rolled to her cheek
and this time, Nick pulled her in to hug. He closed his eyes, avoiding eye contact with
other guys, because he knew what they were thinking. ‘They are probably right’
He thought but still, he couldn’t help the feeling inside him.
Little by little, her sobs started fading and Nick released his hold of her.
She wept of last tear from her face but didn’t dare to look to anyone.
—I’m sorry, she muttered under her breath.
—Nah! Forget it! Nick said. —So, can we go now? He asked from her.
She nodded slightly. Nick turned to other guys.
—I guess I see ya guys tomorrow at the studio, he said.
—Sure thing, bro! Brian said, put his thumb up and grinned. Nick
grinned back to him and lead Cassandra out.
